This week, Serena Williams will spend her 157th consecutive week atop the WTA rankings.
Such a streak puts her in second place on the all-time list, one week ahead of Martina Navratilova – who was ranked No.1 for 156 straight weeks from 1982 to 1985 – and trailing only Steffi Graf, who held the position for an incredible 186 straight weeks.
Having topped the rankings in on-and-off fashion since first ascending to the summit in 2002, Williams last returned to world No.1 in February 2013 after beating Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinals of the Qatar Total Open.
She’s stayed there ever since.
And she has shown no signs of relinquishing her status as the game’s premier female player; Williams leads world No.2 Angelique Kerber by more than 3,500 ranking points.
