Novak Djokovic returned to action for the first time since his Australian Open triumph with a routine straight-sets win over Tommy Robredo in Dubai.
The world No.1, who took a three-week break after winning his sixth Australian title against Andy Murray last month, blew away the cobwebs with a 6-1 6-2 victory at the ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
Spaniard Robredo lasted one hour and six minutes against the Serbian, who served six aces on his way to clocking up his 699th ATP Tour singles victory.
Djokovic, who has won the Dubai title four times, will bid to become the 12th player in the Open Era to win 700 career singles matches in the second round.
He will face Malek Jaziri after the Tunisian beat Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny 6-4 6-1.
