World No.1 Angelique Kerber is through to the fourth round of the Miami Open after a 64 75 win over American Shelby Rogers. Kerber, who is chasing her first title of 2017, broke five times during a topsy-turvey match that she won in just under 1 hour 30 minutes.

Kerber will be joined in the fourth round by resurgent American Venus Williams. The 36 year old, who is enjoying one of her strongest years on Tour in the last decade, made short work of Romanian qualifier Patricia Maria Tig.

Elsewhere, Indian Wells finalist Svetlana Kuznetsova maintained her solid form with a 64 62 win over Taylor Townsend; Jo Konta, who is looking to bounce back after a disappointing Indian Wells, eased past Pauline Parmentier 64 60; and Samantha Stosur won an epic battle with Peng Shuai 46 63 75.

It wasn’t all good news for the seeds, though. Madison Keys, who is on the come back trail after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, was beaten 75 75 by Spain’s Lara Arruabarrena.
