Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza will reignite their doubles partnership in a bid to defend their title at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

Having gone their separate ways earlier in 2016, Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza will reunite in Singapore this week for the WTA Finals.

Hingis and Mirza are the No.2 seeds in the eight-team knockout draw, which is headed by top seeds and Roland Garros champions Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic.

Karolina Pliskova, teaming with Julia Goerges, is the only player in the field also contesting the singles event in Singapore.

Hingis and Mirza were the dominant team of 2015 and early 2016, winning three straight Grand Slam doubles titles – beginning with Wimbledon in 2015 – among their 14 titles as a duo.

Their last title came in Rome 2016 before their form plummeted; they announced their split in August and played out the rest of their season with separate partners.

Yet at the time of the split they confirmed they would return to defend their title together in Singapore.

That time is now.

“We literally played five tournaments without each other. It’s not like we split in January and we’re just coming back now,” Mirza told WTA Insider.

“So I think it’s pretty easy for us to find each other on court, so to say.”

Hingis and Mirza will open against Taiwanese sisters Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan.
