Sam Groth has enjoyed a career best season in 2015. But how does the Aussie No.3 fuel his way to victory? He spoke to us about his pre-match nutrition plans.
Breakfast
I have cereal, normally something a little more healthy like a mix of Special-K and All-Bran, as well as some eggs and toast.
Lunch
They didn’t have chicken today…
I’ll always eat white meat before a match, even if it’s the night before, I’ll never have red meat. I had turkey with rice and a bit of sweet potato, trying to get carbs in. About 15 minutes before I went on, I had a banana and an energy gel. During the match I use a combination of electrolytes and sometimes during the day as well to make sure I’m not dehydrated before the match. Immediately after the match, I’ll have a protein shake.
Dinner
Steak, something pretty simple. I’m a country boy, so nothing too out of the ordinary. I’m a steak and three vegetables sort of guy.
I always eat
Chicken, without fail.
I never eat
Sushi, I cannot stand the smell of seaweed.
My special treat
I love caramel, anything with caramel in it is my indulgence.
